As my godmother Laura reminded me, it's my feast day today! I had forgotten - usually I remember the date of Gabriel's feast day, but not Monica's. Thank you Laura!
So I thought I'd take the opportunity to make a long-overdue post about my birthday six weeks ago. Really, what a blessing to be born in the deepest depth of summer! Julie was in town to visit. I stayed at Melleray overnight, inaugurating my twenty-seventh year with my very first shot - tequila, as it happened.
We had a generous breakfast of bacon and eggs and strawberries and Mexican pastries. Then Julie and I headed off to Cary, to Chandni's Spa, where I got threading, an exquisitely painful-pleasurable procedure that resulted in deity-like eyebrows; while Julie got a multi-step facial. We reunited to get henna together, which is one of the most special things I can think of doing.
Then it was hurry-hurry - we got takeout food at Cool Breeze, an amazing Indian fast food place, where they give you huge plates of behl puri for $4. Rajeev graciously drove me to our show of The Elephant Man and helped me carry everything, since my hands were wrapped up for the setting henna. His mother Vimala had also sent along a huge amount of food, homemade Indian dishes, enough to feed the whole cast three times over, for my birthday - so before the show we were sprawled out on the set, eating and eating. Then we ended up having an amazing show, our best yet - and it was sold out to boot!
Afterwards, at the cast party, Rajeev and Lucius snuck out to Harris Teeter to buy me a giant birthday sheet cake. They drew a big "M" in the icing and I blew out imaginary candles, and then ate cake with my fingers to my heart's content. It was such a wonderful birthday!
