The way Dad tells it...
He and Donny bought some white cages for the chickens. They were reluctant to do this because it restricted their movement; but it was necessary, for their protection. Nevertheless the chickens weren't happy about it, and while the guinea hens were crowding around them, the chickens must have told them to make a break for it. That evening, the guinea hens were last seen waddling north, down the gravel driveway towards the road.
Dad and Donny thought for sure they'd come back. But a day later, only two came back, flying in from the south. They were, according to Dad, "chastened." What happened to the others is anyone's guess.
