This Advent season, I lit my candles every night, opened another angel-flap on my calendar, and sang a verse of "O Come O Come Emmanuel." Here is a picture of my little altar (aloe plant to the left, diary to the right). The eucalyptus wreath is from my first year at Wellesley - the Newman Ministry had a wreath-making study break; Julie was visiting, she remembers too - and the candles were scavenged from the seasonal aisle at CVS. God is everywhere, yes? Yes.
O come O come Emmanuel,
and ransom captive Israel
that mourns in lonely exile here
until the Son of God appear.
Rejoice, rejoice! O Israel,
to you shall come Emmanuel.
(spoken) We pray that the Lord comes.
