Happy birthday, Nicole!

The actual date-of-birth of Lakaisha N. Sinkler Byrne is March 9, but festivities commenced in earnest this weekend, with a celebration and present-opening at Melleray.  There had been plans for a BIG party!--including out-of-town family and friends, with a huge tent already pitched for overnighters with sleeping bags.  But the sometime-y North Carolina spring weather was not cooperating, and the festa was postponed, at least for now.  Here is our Pisces Goddess with her wriggly puppy Felipe.  Blessings all year long, sister-daughter-wife-niece-aunt-friend Nicole!!!

Kozhencherry kolors

Monica wrote about a VKV field trip: Yesterday five of us took the bus to the nearest big town, Kozhencherry (which happens to be Arundhati Roy's hometown!), to get various necessities...and then some wonderful not-so-necessities. For example, SARIS! Oh, Lord...I've never known such ecstasy and agony. They had hundreds upon hundreds of bolts of cloth, in every conceivable color, material, border, design...and they just kept bringing them out for us to look at, piling the cellophane packets on top of each other, and we just kept squealing and oohing and aahing. After a LOT of looking, I settled on two: (1) one pale grey cotton sari with white embroidery, and (2) one salmon chiffon sari with gold borders. Budget-wise, I could buy more... though I should probably learn to tie the ones I already have...teehee. Afterward, we got sundaes at a shop called St. George's Taste Buds, which were sprinkled with cashews and dried fruit. Deliccccious.  Mmm, no kidding! Thank you, Monique, for all the virtual shades, textures, and flavors!
