Island time

Half of you who read this blog regularly know that we're on Martha's Vineyard for Cousin Elizabeth's wedding, because we saw you last night at the rehearsal dinner. Which, by the way, was so sumptuous--honey sorbet and sangria, fresh sole and spring greens, cupcakes and soft cheeses; and such warm company the whole night through. Thank you to the Tiganis for being such gracious hosts!

Before the rehearsal dinner, we siblings went for a walk on a nearby Edgartown beach. It was windy and rainy, and the ocean surf was frightfully cold. It's another kind of summer. A wild, grey island summer. Aunt Laura says that rain is *auspicious* for weddings in India, by which measure Elizabeth and Julian will be very blessed indeed. But we already knew that :)

Splendor in the grass

Clare writes: The order, the Poor Sister Clares, is gathered in Vermont, doing a series of showings this week at various locations, trying out the idea of making dance liturgy. The goal: to bring God into our midst, to seek the event, to make something happen, for which this liturgy is a vehicle. This is all the same thing.

You can watch a fragment of the liturgy here. As Clare's dreamy-eyed younger artist-sister, I can say that this looks like perfect collaboration to me: finding people you can roll around in the grass with.

To market, to market

As I write, Dad and Pam are staffing a table at the Goldston Farmer's Market! We picked the produce this morning in blazing heat: arugula, collards, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, lettuce, Swiss chard, beets, and broccoli, and radishes (see above, freshly hosed). I just talked to Dad on the phone, and he was proud to report they have eager repeat customers. (But just between you and me, I'm thankful they're not selling our raspberries, which are just beginning to ripen, and taste like nirvana when warmed from the sun and freshly picked. I want them all for us ONLY ;))
